Eighth-grade Students and Faculty Host Annual March to the Memorials

University School of Milwaukee 8th-grade students and faculty hosted the sixth annual March to the Memorials, a service-learning event open to the entire USM community, on Friday, May 25 in the Middle School car circle.

All members of the USM community were invited to march beginning at 2:30 p.m. to raise money for the Stars and Stripes Honor Flights, Pets for Vets, Dryhootch, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Education Center. The goal was for participants to march until 4,000 collective laps (equivalent to the distance from Milwaukee to the war memorials in Washington, D.C.) were walked.

Lawn games, music, and kid-friendly fun was provided, and families were encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and kick off the long weekend off by participating in USM's March to the Memorials.

Several events were held throughout the week leading up to the march, including a student-faculty basketball game, a tasty bake sale, and an out-of-uniform donation drive. Middle School Tower Hour students even sold some of their creations to raise money. USM had a casual-dress day on Friday, May 25 for students who wore red, white, and blue.

We are proud to raise money and awareness for these great organizations and honor our men and women in uniform—past and present—as a USM community!
