Boys Golf and Girls Lacrosse Are Conference Champs
It was a spectacular week for USM Wildcats, starting with the boys golf team, which shot 306 at the Midwest Classic Conference Championships on May 25 to win this year’s conference title. "We have been pretty consistent through our conference play, and we'll need to continue to step it up as we advance through regionals and sectionals," said head coach Phil Plautz. In addition, Owen Gardner ’22 was named Midwest Classic Conference Play of the Year. He finished the conference season with a 37.67 scoring average and was the medalist at the MCC Championships with a score of 72.
On Tuesday, May 26 the girls’ varsity lacrosse team became 2021 Classic 8 Red Conference champions. They beat Cedarburg High School with a final score of 21¬–0. USM’s team is ranked number one in the state, and has had the first undefeated season in the program’s history. This year, the girls lacrosse team has outscored its opponents 264–31.
“I am so proud of these players, as they have been working so hard all season,” said Head Coach and Upper School History Teacher Sam Adey. “Our theme this year is ‘2021Goal’ and we focus on having one goal each practice and each game and just trying to get better every day. The focus is not on the outcomes like championships—instead we know that if we each try to get better every day, that it will make our team better and that the wins will come. We want to focus on the path, not the end.”
