Authors Anuradha Rajurkar and Charles Waters Visit Students
University School of Milwaukee welcomed two authors recently: Anuradha Rajurkar and Charles Waters. Rajurkar’s visit was held in-person, and included a discussion moderated by USM Book Club co-leaders Dalia Chairez ’24 and Emily Igwike ’24. Rajurkar wrote “American Betiya,” which is a novel about identity, family, and racism. Chairez and Igwike asked Rajurkar a variety of questions, including what inspired her to write the book, her experience with cultural appropriation, and more.
In addition, USM and the Parents’ Association welcomed poet Charles Waters for a virtual visit and poetry workshop with 5th grade students. He discussed how he writes and edits his poetry, and provided tips and resources for how to work through writer’s block. He then worked with students as they wrote their own poetry.
Many thanks to USM’s Parents’ Association and Boswell Books for their ongoing support of reading and bringing authors to our campus.
