Internship and Shadowing Program
The opportunity to take part in experiential learning outside of the classroom is unmatched. University School of Milwaukee's Internship and Shadowing Program connects students with seasoned professionals in the business and medical fields. The Program's mission is to develop summer opportunities for current sophomores, juniors and seniors and enable students to gain insight and explore potential career interests.
An internship program of this scope and caliber, typically reserved only for college students, is a true differentiator for USM, which joins only a handful of U.S. independent schools that provide such an offering. USM students have cited the Program as instrumental in providing foundational career search skills and assisting in the highly competitive process of securing a full-time college summer internship. All Program applicants must complete a professionally-led interactive training program that covers workplace etiquette, resume preparation, and interview techniques.

Success by the Hundreds
Since 2009, more than 500 students have participated in meaningful work experiences with leaders and mentors in their respective fields since the inception of the Program. During the 2018-19 school year, students completed more than 150 hands-on internship and shadowing opportunities and 80 took part in specialized training sessions at USM. Internships and job shadowing roles represent a wide variety of disciplines based on student interest, including accounting, advertising, architecture, corporate and criminal law, environmental engineering, human resources, information technology, investment banking, marketing, professional sports management, and specialty retail. Medical job shadowing opportunities matched almost 30 students with 20 different practice specialties, including orthopedics, neurology, radiology, physical therapy, dentistry, and more.
