Counseling at USM

The University School of Milwaukee counseling program helps students master the competencies necessary to make decisions that embody the tenets of our Common Trust and to ultimately become successful learners, leaders, and citizens of the school and the wider community. With the collaborative effort of school personnel, families, and community resources, the school counseling program strives to enhance the academic, personal, and social development of every student at USM.

Program Goals

  • Promote healthy social and emotional development for all students
  • Assist students in acquiring knowledge, attitudes, and communication skills for healthy relationships
  • Implement developmentally appropriate, standards-based curriculum in the domains of academic, personal, and social development
  • Provide consultation and education to USM faculty, administration, and parents regarding student behavioral, emotional, and social adjustment
  • Coordinate specialized interventions based on identified student needs
  • Identify, recommend, and refer students in need of outside or school support services and providers
